“if i should live forever”

watercolor on panels, 12″x12″x3″ each
i painted these sitting cross-legged on our bed (admittedly, a strange place to paint), while jamming out to Florence + The Machine, Fiona Apple and Dark, Dark, Dark. that playlist is like the power trifecta of from-your-gut-resilience, and i would argue, one of the best painting soundtracks ever.
my friend katie commissioned these as a wedding gift for her close friend. this project gave me a great excuse to try out watercolor panels – which it turns out, i love. as an added bonus, katie gave me lots of great source material, which made this project even more special.

a couple weeks ago, i found a small, forgotten pad of nice Cotman watercolor paper. i’ve been using crap watercolor paper for so long – painting on higher quality paper felt like waking up.
so i tailed it over to Blick and picked up some Aquarelle Arches. it’s got a really forgiving surface, but sadly it’s too large to fit on my scanner bed.
