Wendy & Rob are tying the knot! Wendy is one of my oldest friends – we met in gymnastics when we were, like, 12 or 13 years old. we were just baby kids back then! i’ll never forget the first time i saw her tumbling: she was doing consecutive flip-flops across the floor, lost track of how much room she had left, and flipped directly into the mirrors that lined one of the gym walls. it was hilarious. good times, good times!
i’m so excited – girly squeal – to be one of her bridesmaids. hands down, Wendy’s one of the sweetest, funnest, coolest women around.

Wendy’s sister Jenny had been busy planning a surprise engagement party ever since Wendy & Rob returned home from Puerto Rico as fiances. in lieu of gifts, she asked each guest to send a song; she compiled a playlist, and asked me to create an album cover for, “Wendy & Rob: The Album.”
i have to say, as much as i love digital libraries and downloads, i sure do miss the craft of homemade mixes and their sleeves! i used to spend hours upon hours making mixes and creating album jackets for friends. working on this project reminded me how much i love doing this!
i went through a couple drafts before i settled on this design. i wanted the jacket to blend the feminine and masculine, and suit the eclectic mix of tunes it held. connecting Wendy and Rob’s names really helped the design take shape – what emerged was line play (and, maybe, a sort of underlying play with continuity – the seamlessness of both a good mix and two people in love).
the design is drawn in pencil on Moleskine paper, and the playlist is written in Courier (this lent much-needed contrast). my Canon printer churned out 35 copies on Canson card stock – I was surprised by how nicely they printed! i’m really happy with how they turned out…
and, i’m really happy the engagement party was a success! i can’t wait for more fun wedding stuff! cheers to love & friendship!
